I did some more tidying up last night. After far too long without them I have finally reactivated the archives. They are category driven now, although the individual entries are still stored and sorted by date I am not making the by-date archive publically available due to the infrequency of my posts. md5 generator
Over the last year my posting habits have moved towards substance over frequency, meaning that I post less often but generally have more interesting things to say when I do bother. This is a format that is more fitting for both the substance and style of my comments as well as less psychologically demanding. One of the reasons I went through such long periods of inactivity here is because I felt obligated somehow to post more frequently than I really am moved to. That artificial sense of responsibility (as ridiculous as it is) actually hampered my enjoyment of the outlet.
So I decided to nix the archives and take down the calendar and worry instead about making sure that the things I posted were actually worth reading. I don't have the time to crank out an entry every day, much less ten or twelve like some folks, but I do have the time to sit down every couple of weeks and put words to one or two big issues that I've been spending my spare thoughts on. It's much better for me as a writing exercise to do it this way: I manage to be more regular about my output, and I don't interfere with other things that really should be getting more of my attention.
Then somewhere along the line I realized that if I restructured my archives in accordance with this mindset, focusing on what I say rather than how often it is said, I'd feel a lot more comfortable about sharing them with the public again. I took out a few hours yesterday to get the category pages in order and to create a custom archive list. The latter was necessary because MT's container tag methodology is far too restrictive for what I wanted to do. The result is that while the individual entries are still catalogued and filed away by date the actual archives interface is done by category.
Then while I was at it I updated my links on the right here. Weeded out some stuff I don't read so regularly anymore, replaced it with other things I do. I also found out that several other members of the 2845 team maintain blogs (which is a no-brainer really, but it never occured to me until someone brought it up in a staff discussion,) so I added them to the short list. I'll be updating that again over the next couple of days as I find out all the URLs for staff bloggers. I also updated the Electoral Vote Prediction map and link. Look for that to change weekly for the next three weeks.
I guess that about covers it. I should have another .plan update in a few days, until then watch the RSS feed.
